"Souper" Macaroni and Cheese

 

    This dish is warm and soothing and full of flavor.  I used bread crumbs the first time and found they dried the mixture out just a tad, so the French-fried onions are certainly the way to go!



Souper Macaroni and Cheese

1 can cream of mushroom soup
½ cup milk
½ tsp mustard
pepper 
3 cups cooked macaroni
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup French-fried onions

In 1 ½ gt casserole dish, blend soup, milk, and mustard. Pepper to taste. Stir in macaroni and 1 ½ cups cheese.  Bake at 400 F for 25 minutes or until hot. Stir. Top with onions and remaining cheese and bake 5 minutes longer or until cheese melts. Makes about 4 ½ cups.   


I had never heard of putting dry mustard in macaroni and cheese (and in fact, realized I didn't even own any.) It added a subtle flavor that I really enjoyed, and I'll be adding to mac and cheese from now on!
